We’re honored to serve women from all walks of life at the Women’s Clinic. This is a story from a woman we serve at the Women’s Clinic.
Nine months ago, I moved to Colorado Springs hoping for a change. I thought I could get a better job and have better opportunities to support my children and grandchildren. Sadly, that hasn’t been the case. Job opportunities are few and far between, and I’m barely scraping by. I’m homesick and desperate to move closer to my family, but I can’t pay for a move right now.
Then, a few weeks ago, I found a lump in one of my breasts. Because I can’t afford insurance, I haven’t been to a doctor in 15 years. I didn’t know what to do. I was terrified.
My daughter called one morning and told me about Dream Centers. She had been researching free or reduced medical options around town for me. She told me to check out the Women’s Clinic, that it looked decent.
I thought it would be one of those free clinics where you have to sit and wait half a day before you’re able to see someone. I expected to get mediocre care, to be rushed in and out of the door, to feel unseen and afraid.
I could not have been more wrong.
When I called the Women’s Clinic, they gave me an appointment and assured me that I wouldn’t have to wait. When I arrived, the facility was clean, the staff was friendly, the whole experience was efficient and easy. They provided paperwork, referred me to get a mammogram, and sent me for labs. The doctor even called me the same day I got my mammogram results back. She talked me through the results and assured me that all was clear. I had nothing to fear.
My experience at the Women’s Clinic was truly amazing. For one, it was free. If I had to pay, I could not have gone. And then, the care was exceptional — to have results that gave me peace of mind, to have kind people take care of me and help me feel seen and assured. I’m grateful for this place, grateful for the people who donate to make it possible for women like me.
Jesus, thank you that this mother, this grandmother, found hope and peace at the Women’s Clinic. Thank you for a clean bill of health, for assurance moving forward. We pray that you would provide a better job, that you would provide the means for her to move closer to her family, to support herself and the ones she loves. We pray that she would feel seen, known, loved, and encouraged by the people and the resources here in Colorado Springs.
