This Christmas season, Dream Centers was able to provide a Christmas Shoppe for families at Mary’s Home and the Women’s Clinic. Thank you to all of the donors and volunteers who made this event possible!
Gratitude is a choice and a mindset that is fueled by our perspectives.
What does it look like to have gratitude?
“This is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced!” exclaimed a tearful Dream Centers Mary’s Home mother. “I can’t believe I actually get to select the toys for my child. Thank you so much for this,” she added.
This mom had received Christmas assistance before in the form of a large bag of preselected items for her child. “Not that I wasn’t grateful,” said this mother. “But this is amazing!”
We heard similar comments from many of the Mary’s Home moms as they stepped into the magnificent Dream Centers Christmas Shoppe and carefully chose gifts for their children. For many of the moms, this was the first Christmas they could be the heroes for their children – selecting that perfect gift, wrapping it, placing it under the tree, starting a tradition by stuffing their child’s personalized stocking, and then, seeing the delight on their child’s face for a gift they selected!
But that’s just the beginning of what their gratitude looked like. Gratitude is a fundamental principle in the Mary’s Home curriculum. The women at Mary’s Home had been discussing gratitude throughout the holiday season and this was a chance for them to live it out.
It began within their own Mary’s Home community. Several times throughout the evening, mom’s selected, or didn’t select, gifts based on what they thought might be perfect for children other than their own. They helped each other shop, wrap and shared laughs and tears with the volunteers and other moms.
One mother asked another why she didn’t select one of the best gifts in the room for her son. The mom replied, “Because I thought that would be even more perfect for Alicia’s son.”
Then, their gratitude spread outside of Mary’s Home into the community. The following day, all the mothers without work or school conflicts spent the day volunteering at the Dream Centers Women’s Clinic Christmas Shoppe.
The ladies from Mary’s Home shared in the joy, tears, and prayers of blessing more than 100 other families in need with the remaining gifts received by Dream Centers. The Mary’s Home moms said they had more fun doing this than anything they had done in a long time! As a matter of fact, they want to plan and coordinate the Women’s Clinic Christmas Shoppe next year and make it an even bigger and better way to complete the circle of gratitude.
What a blessing it is to bless others!
