The holiday season is busy, overwhelming, and for many families a financial burden. The desire to provide an unforgettable Christmas for one’s children forces mothers to choose between using their savings to care for their own needs or the needs of their children. This is the story of a patient at the Dream Centers Women’s Clinic.

I laid in bed and dreamt of the worst possible scenario. The pains were deep, and after months of believing they would subside, my body was growing weak.

I had lost my insurance at Christmas-time a year earlier. I couldn’t believe it had been almost a full year of severe pain and anxiety for my health. My kids had hopes of attending the Festival of Lights Parade, and I was looking forward to walking down our neighborhood with hot cocoa and singing carols.

My body was struggling, and I was concerned I wouldn’t be able to foot the bill for Christmas presents for my kids and take care of my medical needs.

I knew I couldn’t wait any longer. A friend had told me about a free women’s health clinic in town for women without insurance. I quickly called the number and made an appointment at the Dream Centers Women’s Clinic.

After testing was done, the doctor gladly told me that basic antibiotics would clear up my symptoms and infection. I couldn’t believe it. I also couldn’t believe I had waited so long.

Being healthy meant Christmas could happen in a real tangible way for my kids. We could enter into the joy of Christmas without the anxiety of medical debt. We could focus on each other and not the fear of the unknown. We could live in the Christmas spirit of hope and not frantic discord.

Dream Centers gave me hope. I’m so grateful for a place that met me exactly where I was at that moment, and this has made all the difference in the world.
