Mary’s Home

Mary’s Home

Mom and ChildThe Apostle John captures a moment in history just prior to Jesus’ death on the cross, a moment that has inspired the vision for Dream Centers Mary’s Home. Mary stood near the foot of the cross, along with a few other people who were close to Jesus. When he saw his mother there, and saw John standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to John, “Here is your mother.” Then John tells us that from that time on, he took her into his home.

This moving story describes the trust that Jesus had for one of his best friends, a trust that led John to care for Mary like she was his own mother. We can assume that Joseph had passed away by this time. Mary had been in the care of her son Jesus. She was a single mom. And now that Jesus was about to die, she needed the support of friends.

The vision for Mary’s Home is to have a thriving, faith-based community helping single mom families make the transition from homelessness to a healthy, stable living environment where they can experience holistic transformation and interdependence. The families will participate in a life-building program through phases offering health and hope as they work to rebuild their dreams and reach their goals. The housing will be in a safe environment and include support provided by family advocates, resident mentors and weekly community connection with volunteers.

All of our Dream Centers are community dream centers. We invite everyone to join in making this vision a reality. Whether you want to bring your skills in construction, your passion in prayer or your gifts for making this program sustainable, we invite you into this vision. At this time, we are fundraising to purchase an apartment building that will become Mary’s Home. Will you help us turn this dream into a reality? Simply invite your own friends and family into this journey and email us with your ideas of ways you would like to help. We will continue to give updates through this blog and will begin hosting planning meetings early next year. Email us at [email protected]

I have background knowledge in nutrition and am scheduled to graduate from UCCS in December with a degree in Health Care Science – Health and Wellness Promotion. Is there anything I could do to volunteer?
